Personal
Statement: I received my bachelor's degree from the California College of Arts and Crafts and my master's degree in art from San Francisco State University. I have taught drawing, painting, and art history at Ohlone College since 1967. My deep interest in symbolism and classical mythology is revealed in my still life and landscape paintings. My works have been shown in numerous art galleries and museums, and I am currently represented by Dorothe Barlett Gallery in Pleasanton, California. In addition to my first loves of painting and teaching, I am a current consultant to the new Art Gallery at Ohlone College and have created a youth mentor program which reaches out to young aspiring artists in the community.David McLaughlin is currently at work on various projects including stained glass, tile mosaic, murals, and romantic landscape paintings based on historical references inspired by world travel and his love for American landscape. His work is primarily executed in watercolor, however works he frequently will work in acrylic and oil. McLaughlin periodically travels to Europe to study art in Italy, Greece, and Turkey. He has lead art history related tours throughout Europe for students and art enthusiasts.
Professor McLaughlin looks forward to his forthcoming retirement from Ohlone College and will focus on his passion for art....
